NBCT: National Board Certification improves teacher quality

Removing stipends for National Board Certified Teachers in South Carolina would be detrimental to teaching and learning, an NBCT writes in this letter to the editor. John R. Boyd notes that a study has shown the national certification improves teacher retention, student achievement and professional development. "I firmly believe that the certification process did more to improve the quality of my teaching than anything else I have done," Boyd writes.
