Robots could eventually speed repairs of water mains

Robotic devices could eventually accelerate repairs of the nation's aging water mains. The Commerce Department's Technology Innovation Program is funding a partnership formed to develop the devices. Carbon-fiber industry firms Fibrwrap Construction, Inc. and FYFE Co. are working with University of California robotics experts to develop robots that experts believe could lay carbon fiber 11 times faster than human crews.
