Before cosmetic surgery, make sure the certification is right

Medical spas run by physicians board-certified in plastic surgery offer patients a safe, pampering environment, but too many spas are run by practitioners not certified in plastic surgery and put patients at risk, writes plastic surgeon Michael Yaremchuk, chief of craniofacial surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. Before choosing to have rejuvenation procedures at a medical spa, patients should be sure the overseeing physician is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the facility is adequately equipped and staffed and the nonphysician staff are well-trained and supervised.
