The evolution of science instruction

Science instruction is expected to look differently in the future, under the Next Generation Science Standards expected to be adopted by 26 states next year, said Gerry Wheeler, executive director of the National Science Teacher Association. The changes are expected to include a greater focus on science, technology, engineering and math; model-making; real-world problem-solving; and hands-on experience. Teachers who have the personality to let their classrooms get messy will be successful, Wheeler said.
