The palliative model can bring better care at reduced costs for millions of people, said the leader of a study that found palliative care eases depression and reduces the need for emergency visits for patients in long-term care. "Many patients and families fear a painful, undignified death. The palliative care team is an elegant model that can improve care for long-term care residents and, at the same time bring down costs,” said Dr. Jody Comart, palliative care director at Hebrew SeniorLife's Hebrew Rehabilitation Center and Institute for Aging Research.
