Column: New book explores link between poverty, education

New York Times magazine editor Paul Tough's new book, "Whatever It Takes: Geoffrey Canada's Quest to Change Harlem and America," is "one of the best books ever written about how poverty influences learning, and vice versa," writes Washington Post columnist Jay Mathews. Canada hopes to transform the lives of children in poverty with his Harlem Children's Zone, which includes parenting classes, preschool and after-school enrichment classes for older children.
