Construction stalls on several federal building projects

The credit crisis and the high cost of new construction have stalled construction on several buildings that the federal government planned to lease from developers. Buildings that would house the FBI, FAA and Social Security Administration are among the structures now on hold because of financing problems. General Services Administration officials estimate that the backlog of major lease-construction projects now totals more than $5 billion.
