A former TSA union chief says collective bargaining is crucial for airport screeners but that reforms should not end there. In a column for The Sun in Baltimore, Ron Moore argues that for-profit contractors, including Lockheed Martin Corp., should not be responsible for judging the performance of TSA officers. "As a rule, any function performed by a contract employee for more than 12 months should be considered a permanent and necessary function of government and should be transitioned to the federal service," Moore writes.
