CBO says "public option lite" won't make a difference

The latest Congressional Budget Office report concluded that a "public option lite," in which private insurance plans are overseen by the federal Office of Personnel Management, will not play a significant role in health reform. The "inclusion of this provision did not have a significant effect on the estimates of federal costs or enrollment in the exchanges" because insurers in the program would probably offer the same plans within and outside the public option lite.
