Spending on gifted program is questioned by parents in Illinois district

A number of parents in an Illinois school district are asking officials to consider making cuts to a program for students who are gifted, with some parents suggesting the district use the money to reduce overall class sizes. "Why does such a small part of our student population get this program's benefits?" another parent asked. Officials say the gifted program costs about $1 million per year, with about $800,000 going toward teacher salaries. Significant cuts to the program are not expected.
