Modifications up, but HAMP still underperforming

The Treasury Department said that permanent mortgage modifications made through the government's Home Affordable Modification Program surpassed 500,000 in November, a 4% increase from October. However, the program has not yet met the White House's goal of 3 million loan modifications. Meanwhile, the program has prompted mortgage services to ramp up their own loan modifications, according to Theresa Schrettenbrunner, a representative of Wells Fargo.
