Index records sustained U.S. consumer mood improvement

U.S. consumer confidence rose for the fourth straight month in December, according to the leading index of consumer sentiment from Thompson Reuters/University of Michigan. Twenty-nine percent of respondents indicated optimism for better economic times ahead, up from 19% the previous month.
