Pancreatitis causes serious illness, sometimes death

Pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas, can be acute or chronic and is one cause of vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain in dogs and cats, according to veterinarian Jörg Steiner of Texas A&M. While usually treated with fluid therapy and pain medications while addressing the underlying cause, pancreatitis can sometimes be so severe that the animal dies.
