Health savings accounts go into effect Jan. 1

Beginning Jan. 1, the health savings accounts, part of the Medicare reform law, go into effect, enabling millions of Americans to save money tax free to cover their health expenses. The law limits eligibility to people who have health insurance policies with annual deductibles of at least $1,000 for individuals and $2,000 for families; Americans 65 and older cannot participate.
