South Korean investigation: Research was intentionally fabricated

The nine-member panel from Seoul National University investigating stem cell research conducted by Hwang Woo-suk says a landmark paper on tailor-made stem cells was intentionally fabricated, calling it "major misconduct that undermines the fundamentals of science." The panel says it found there were only two stem cell lines in the published paper, not 11, but said it has not yet decided whether the key findings concerning tailor-made embryonic stem cells are valid or not. Hwang resigned as a university professor and apologized for "creating a shock and disappointment" but still maintained he created the technology to make patient-matched stem cells.
