Dairy industry to cut methane emissions

The dairy industry is partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to play its part in reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by increasing use of anaerobic digesters. The digesters capture the gases from cow manure for use, rather than allowing the methane to contribute to atmospheric greenhouse-gas build-up. The decomposition of livestock manure contributes about 7% of U.S. methane emissions, so harnessing the gases would help move the U.S. toward a goal of cutting emissions 25% by 2020.
