Marketers fill consumers' e-mail inboxes

As Christmas nears, retailers are ramping up their e-mail marketing efforts, striving to trigger one more purchase. Dan Springer, head of the e-mail marketing firm Responsys, said his clients' e-mail and social-media marketing has jumped. This year, he said, Responsys will have sent 25 billion e-mails for its clients, and those messages translate into millions of dollars in revenue.
