Study: N.C. nuclear sector accounts for more than 9,200 jobs

North Carolina's three nuclear plants produce 31% of the state's electricity and employ more than 9,200 people earning $450 million a year, according to a Clemson University study. In a region with a 10% unemployment rate, the nuclear industry has been a reliable source of "high-value jobs," said Jack Fuller, CEO of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, which is separately planning for a new nuclear plant near Detroit.
