Tsunami brings peace to Banda Aceh, circuitously

After the devastating tsunami of 2004, the warring factions that have waged a violent separatist conflict in Banda Aceh for three decades embraced peace negotiations with a new urgency -- producing an agreement to end the violence within seven months. The former rebel commander who serves as a provincial governor for the Indonesian island will preside over a ceremony commemorating the fifth anniversary of the tsunami as well as the beginning of the end of civil strife.
