Ore. district broadens enrollment in gifted-education program

A program for students who are highly gifted in Oregon's Beaverton School District enrolled 112 more students this year after relaxing its standards to include those scoring in the 97th percentile on state math or reading tests, as long as they scored in the 99th percentile on the other subject test. Previously, students had to score in the 99th percentile on both tests to enroll in the district's Summa program, a requirement that parents and experts said could overlook students who are gifted in just one of the subjects.
