A concrete fortress: L.A.'s Garbutt mansion

Frank A. A. Garbutt's concrete mansion was completed in 1928 on top of a hill in Los Angeles' Silver Lake area. The Garbutt House is believed to be resistant to fires and earthquakes, and is described by writer Hadley Meares as "a citadel, a church, and ... vaguely like a 19th century mental institution."
