Twitter complaints are being added to marketers' flu tracking

Along with tracking data from clinics, pharmacies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, marketers of cold remedies and flu-related products are looking at Twitter complaints about coughs, colds and aches to better target their advertising. Marketers prep ads for quick rollouts just ahead of an outbreak, hitting the sweet spot when customers start seeing the illness. "We want to market more when people are getting sick, and not when people are well," said ProPhase Labs CEO Ted Karkus.
