U.S. consumer spending surges in November

Holiday bargains coupled with rising stock and housing prices and an improving job market drove up U.S. consumer spending 0.5% last month. "Moods are getting better, and we're starting to see consumers get a little more active," Michael Moran, chief economist at Daiwa Capital Markets America, said of the gain, the strongest in five months.
