Air carriers explore biofuel options

Fifteen major airlines and air cargo companies are in negotiations to purchase fuels made from vegetable oil, coal and petroleum coke. The move comes as the industry undertakes a push to reduce dependence on oil. AMR Corp.'s American Airlines, Delta Air Lines Inc.'s Delta and Deutsche Lufthansa AG's Lufthansa are among the companies that have signed a memorandum of understanding to buy jet fuel made from coal and petroleum coke.
