France to maintain ban on headscarves for school monitors

Officials in France will maintain a ban on headscarves for volunteer school monitors despite a recent ruling that a requirement of religious neutrality does not apply to monitors. Education Minister Vincent Peillon announced Monday that schools can impose their own rules against religious wear. The ban was imposed last year, and students were banned from wearing headscarves 10 years ago.
