400G is the new frontier for vendors of optical networking gear

The roster of vendors providing optical networking equipment capable of operating at 400 gigabits per second now includes Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, Fujitsu, Huawei Technologies, NEC and NTT Communications, Dan O'Shea notes in this analysis. Meanwhile, Infinera is pressing on to 500 Gbps. "The next generation for us will be a terabit on a chip," Infinera's Vinay Rathore said.
