Ford automated vehicle uses 3D map of its surroundings to navigate

Ford unveiled a research prototype of an automated Fusion Hybrid at the North American International Auto Show. The car uses LiDar sensors and a 360-degree camera to create a 3D map of objects moving near it. The vehicle uses the map along with algorithms designed by University of Michigan engineers to handle stopping and starting and can correct driver errors.
