Smartphone attachment Spike creates 3D maps on the go

Virginia-based company IkeGPS has designed a mapping tool called Spike that attaches to the back of a smartphone and uses lasers to create 3D models of any object within 200 feet. The company is still at work on a mobile application that will allow users to create models on their smartphones or share mapping data, and they're also building an application programming interface to allow third-party developers to incorporate the data from the tool into location-based apps.
