U.K. retailers to focus on nonfood sales

British retailers including Tesco, ASDA and J Sainsbury are expanding their line of nonfood products in response to forecasts that nonfood supermarket sales will increase by more than 40% to $29.4 billion by 2012. Tesco recently launched its nonfood catalogue and Internet business, Tesco Direct, while ASDA plans to intensify promotions for its Asda Living format.
