Price swings in REIT shares frustrate CEOs

In addition to dealing with the recession, CEOs of REITs are also forced to cope with volatility in the price of their stocks. The price swings are making it more difficult for the executives to make deals, attract investors, raise capital and pay employees. "It's a very alarming, very disconcerting impact on the stock," says Equity Residential chief executive David Neithercut. "Maybe somebody's making money, but I think it's a real problem for our business."
