How reliability issues undermine wind-farm profitability

Higher-than-expected operations and maintenance costs are one of the primary reasons that wind farms underperform in generating profits, according to a Wind Energy Update survey. Component failures are a persistent problem, as many wind farms must rely on newly developed parts that haven't been properly tested for reliability, writes Jon Harman.
