Natural gas drilling drives growth in Pa. metro area

Williamsport, Pa., was among the fastest growing U.S. metro areas this year as Marcellus Shale gas production fueled economic growth. Firms such as Anadarko Petroleum and Champion Technologies have expanded operations there. "The rest of the economy is not good. The national unemployment rate is 9%. It was never that high in my lifetime that I've been aware of. The gas industry is benefiting us tremendously. That's what is driving the growth," said Vincent Matteo, president and CEO of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
