Authorities confirm patient data breach in identity theft scheme

Data from more than 400 patients of the Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division was compromised in a check-forgery and identity-theft ring that authorities believe spread to at least 13 states. A former worker in the LSU health care billing department admitted acquiring hospital documents that were later used to produce fraudulent checks, according to reports.
