Has that expired food really gone bad? Your nose knows

If a food is past its expiration date, does that really mean it's gone bad? Experts say your nose knows. Food manufacturers want their food to be as fresh as possible, but most food is still good even after its "sell by" date. To be sure, smell it. "Very often, you won't eat it because of the smell, and you probably won't like the taste, but in a lot of cases, it's unlikely to cause you illness," said John Ruff, president of the Institute of Food Technologists.
