Merged carriers betting on rising prepaid market

The wireless prepaid market, which one analyst expects to reach 110 million subscribers this year, will play a major role in determining the outcome of the two major deals hanging over the industry: T-Mobile USA's merger with MetroPCS and Softbank's bid for 70% of Sprint Nextel, according to a published account. Industry executives note that the no-contract market is growing several times faster than traditional postpaid packages.
