Family visitors are beneficial in the ICU

Visiting policies and enforcement vary widely in adult intensive care units, with visitation restricted in most U.S. hospitals. But hospitals should allow family members complete access to ICU patients, even during lifesaving procedures, writes ICU nurse Darla Topley. She notes that a family member at the bedside can improve care, increase communication and enhance staff satisfaction.
