High-fat, -sugar diet linked to cognitive impairment

An animal study in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity found rats that underwent a high-fat and high-sugar diet exhibited cognitive impairments at one week compared with those given a healthy diet. Researchers also found that the damage is irreversible when the animals switched back to a healthy diet and noted inflammation signs in their hippocampal area, suggesting that inflammatory responses in obese individuals may not be only seen in fat tissues.
