Miss. 4th-graders learn state's history with blues curriculum

Fourth-graders at Tunica Elementary School in Tunica, Miss., are learning their state's history and other social studies, English, math and science lessons through the Blues Trail Curriculum, which covers the Mississippi Delta's rich blues legacy. The lessons focus on music, cotton, transportation, civil rights and media. Teacher Chevonne Dixon said the "slow melodic sound" of the music makes it easier for students to recall the information as they write their own blues songs about homework and weather and read lyrics about how cotton is grown.
