Some private colleges are reducing tuition -- and discounts

Some small private colleges, such as Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., are slashing tuition prices to attract more students. Converse has lowered its tuition by 43%, noting that most of its 700 students receive financial aid or discounts anyway. "We're taking the fear of the price tag out of the equation on the front end," Converse President Betsy Fleming said.
