Adware isn't spyware, marketers say

So-called "contextual advertising," which targets Web advertising based on user behavior, is not spyware and is getting an undeserved bad rap, say online marketers WhenU and Claria. Despite their efforts to win Web surfers' trust, some privacy advocates are concerned that users are unaware of adware installations on their machines, even if those programs aren't used to collect personal data.
