Researchers target protein to prevent liver damage

A team of U.S. researchers was able to stop liver fibrosis -- a condition that involves the formation of excessive scar tissue as a result of alcohol abuse and hepatitis -- in mice by administering a chemical designed to block the RSK protein. The treatment also could benefit patients with pulmonary fibrosis and burns, researchers said.
