The incoming Republican leadership in the House has strongly indicated its intent to throw roadblocks in the path of federal agencies trying to formulate regulations in keeping with the Dodd-Frank legislation, including withholding the funds they need, argues this editorial. "What is unclear is the Democratic strategy -- in Congress and the White House -- for thwarting them," the editorial says, urging action from the president to prevent such obstruction. "Mr. Obama cannot let financial reform become a bargaining chip and must make the case that it will not help the federal budget -- or the nation in general -- to shortchange reforms that could prevent another crisis."
