Cash-flow projections can help small-business owners to prepare for the future and weather tough times, Rich Russakoff and Mary Goodman write. "If you know in advance that you will not break even in a given month or longer, you can put a plan in place to make up the shortfall with a line of credit, cash reserve or savvy cash-flow management," they write. Such projections should factor in expected revenue, expenses and sales, they write.
