Government pay increases slightly more than in private sector

Federal employees' pay rose at a slightly higher pace than their private-sector counterparts over the last year. Federal pay rose by an average of 1.3% in the year ended Sept. 30, the smallest increase in a decade. Meanwhile, private-sector workers saw their wages grow 1.2% during the same period. Neither increase kept pace with inflation.
