Hospitals in Red Apple Initiative offer healthier fare

Ninety-five of 127 North Carolina hospitals participate in the Red Apple Initiative to make the food they serve more nutritious and affordable. Gaston Memorial Hospital near Charlotte color-codes its foods to show diners which are the healthiest choices, and Andrea Serra, an executive at the hospital's parent company, CaroMont Health, says it has "really raised the level of consciousness about the food we eat."
