Hotels report rising rates in December

The average occupancy rate of hotels rose 5.9%, to 49%, for the week of Dec. 11 to 17, while average daily rate went up 4.2%, to $95.35, during the same period, hotel-industry tracker STR reports. New Orleans and San Diego led the top 25 U.S. markets in occupancy increases, with 23.5% and 18.8% jumps, respectively.
