Study: 1 in 6 stent patients return to hospital

Nearly one in six patients who got stents to open blocked arteries returned to the hospital within one month. However, most of the readmission risk factors, including age and gender, are not modifiable, according to research from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Dr. Joseph Cacchione wrote that it may be better to keep at-risk patients in the hospital longer or provide them with more intensive care coordination.
