TEPCO seeks more funds to compensate Fukushima Daiichi victims

Tokyo Electric Power requested an additional $8.86 billion from the Japanese government to help pay those affected by the Fukushima Daiichi incident. "We have reviewed the estimated sum of compensation after the committee addressing compensation disputes decided on additional measures to compensate victims who voluntarily evacuated," the utility said in a statement. Japanese authorities had previously agreed to give TEPCO $11.4 billion through a bailout fund for cleanup and compensation.
