Ohio city council approves firefighter cuts with 2013 budget

The Hamilton, Ohio, City Council unanimously approved a 2013 budget that includes cuts to the fire department and health insurance. The council, which faced a $3.3 million deficit, voted to eliminate 18 firefighter positions by May and to transition a city fire station to a medic-only station by January 2014. Some residents opposed the fire department cuts, but one council member said the cuts are the council's only option.
