Boston-based private-equity firm Berkshire Partners has signed a deal to purchase Lightower Fiber Networks and Sidera Networks for more than $2 billion and plans to merge the two companies, operating them under the Lightower name. Lightower CEO Rob Shanahan will head up the combined company. "Even though we compete in similar markets, there was less network overlap than either of us thought. We'll have a lot more unique fiber assets to reach more customers," Shanahan said.
